What are RFID products?

RFID what? Radio-Frequency Identification or RFID products contain a radio-frequency electromagnetic field coil and a chip that provides specific information when queried by a reader device. This way, you can easily identify or track individuals and objects at your event! RFID’s capabilities are almost unlimited and widely used in the events sector.

RFID and NFC: what is the difference?

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a specific application of RFID that operates over very short distances. It is designed for the exchange of data (two-way communication). RFID, on the other hand, involves the storage and transmission of data in one direction. NFC is often used for contactless payments, smartphone applications and interactive marketing campaigns. RFID often requires specialised reading equipment, whereas most NFC chips (with the exception of those with more complex security features, such as bank cards) can be read using a smartphone. An RFID tag also has a much greater range. At Orakel, all our RFID products are equipped with NFC technology.

NFC chips: which type do I need?

At Orakel, we offer various types of chips that you can combine with the payment system used at your event or festival. Please bear in mind that the uses of these chips cannot be strictly defined. Do you have any questions about which chip best suits your needs? Please do not hesitate to contact our team. We would be happy to work with you to find the best solution to complement your payment system.

Mifare UL-EV1

The Mifare UL-EV1 is a reliable chip suitable for limited use applications, such as public transportation, access control, event ticketing and loyalty programs. This chip is a popular choice for cost-effective RFID solutions.

Mifare UL-C (50pF)

The Mifare UL-C (50pF) chip offers additional security thanks to 3DES authentication and is also suitable for limited use applications, such as access control, public transportation, event ticketing and loyalty programs.

Mifare Classic 1K

The Mifare Classic 1K chip is used for access control, employee cards and payment systems. Thanks to its 1 KB memory, more data can be stored on the chip compared with Mifare Ultralight chips. In addition, the chip allows for more read/write cycles, making the Mifare Classic 1K suitable for long-term applications.

Icode Slix

The Icode Slix is used for library management, in pharmaceutical supply chains, to protect consumer goods against counterfeiting, for industrial applications and for tracking assets and documents. The chip has been specially designed for applications requiring a longer range detection and is suitable for the fast and reliable identification of multiple tags simultaneously.

Fudan F08

The Fudan F08 is a cost-effective alternative to the Mifare Classic 1K chip. The Chinese version offers similar functionality and compatibility.

4489 (UL-C compatible)

The 4489 (UL-C compatible) is an NFC chip similar to the Mifare UL-C (50pF). This Chinese alternative can be easily integrated into existing systems.

Collecting valuable data

RFID technology offers different levels of access for visitors, crew, artists, athletes and so on, to be easily managed. Because of RFID products, organisers or sponsors can access valuable data like number of visitors, length of time spent at a venue, most visited areas and many other valuable aspects specific to the event. This collected information can later be analysed and used for future marketing and organisational improvements.

Applications of RFID products

Some popular applications of RFID products include:

  • Access control
  • Visitor registration
  • Stock management
  • Cashless payments
  • Identification
  • Exclusive benefits
  • Marketing campaigns

Advantages RFID products

  • Sponsors can effortlessly communicate with and market to their audiences via RFID interactive applications. This can be done through the use and integration of social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, but also through specific data collection.
  • Orakels RFID products e.g. wristbands, PVC cards, etc. help simplify transactions and eliminates cash by using cash-free systems.
  • Paying with a wristband ensures that theft and fraudulent matters are quickly addressed and queuing time is greatly reduced.
